Six-month Check-in: 2023

Oof it is June, y’all. But fear not! It’s been an exciting few months and I have much to report.

First, let’s look at this year’s goals.

First of all, Marquee in Verse is done! I made a lot of posts about this over on Instagram, where you can see photos of all of the poetry installations. It was tons of fun, and I am really glad that I did it. I’ve got a post planned to go into a little bit more of the benefits and considerations you might want to think about if you take on a grant like this, if that’s an area of interest for you. I’m sure I will get to that sometime soon.

I’ve been diligently querying TFK, so I’m proud of myself for sticking with that. I also received some non-TFK-related good publishing news for a novella I had been shopping around. More to come on this when I make an official announcement, but I am very excited. And I’ll have a poem forthcoming in Artemis Journal, which is a local annual publication, in September.

As far as new writing and other projects, I have been chipping away at my new project for stress relief, but my wordcount has not been particularly high this year (perhaps understandably). Hopefully that will ramp up here slightly, but to be honest I’m okay with my pace this year. There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes in my personal life that make new words feel just a little hard right now, which seems to have been a theme over the past two years. A lot of those things are good! Some of those things have not been as good. Either way, I’m sure my slump isn’t done, but I’m also sure that it won’t be a thing forever. And in the interim, I’m really excited about everything I’m working on. Someday you will be, too!

Until December!
