Ghosts, editing, and bookmarks!

Hello again! It’s your weekly blogpost!

This week I want to chat about what I’m working on currently, including my Patreon project.

Patreon4

I’ve had two goals for the past few months that I’ve been working on. One is to be on submission. This takes a lot more work than you probably think it does, and requires dusting up all the stories I’ve finished in the past few months, researching markets, and sending them out into the world. I have, tentatively, four or five short stories that I would like to find homes and have been finished in the past six months, which is a lot for me. I blame my new proclivity on a recent fascination with the form. Short stories are easier to read when I need a quick break during a busy day than novels, so I’ve been reading a lot more of them. I still don’t know if I’m a great short story writer, but I like to think that I’ve become a lot better in the past year if for no other reason than because my love for short stories has grown.

So anyway, that means I’ve spent a lot of time grooming stories, which can take several passes, and sending missives out into the metaphorical ether.

The other thing I’ve been doing, of course, is writing. Specifically, I’ve been working on the Patreon horror story I’ve wanted to do for some time now under the Black Roses header.

Patreon Bookmark

(Did I mention I made bookmarks? Possibly jumping the gun a bit but I love them so much I don’t care.)

For those unfamiliar, Patreon is a subscription service whereby you can support your favorite creators for as little as $1/month. You can even set up your payments through Paypal. At the moment, my Patreon is sort of fledgling and operates primarily to support my blog posts. I also post excerpts from things I’ve been working on, including the aforementioned short stories, with some explanation of what the story is about or why I particularly liked the excerpt in question. I’ve promised everyone dark poems at $20/month but we’re not quite there yet. If you’re interested, we’ve only got $8 to go to get there. You could be the lucky soul that unlocks this joy! (For a sample poem, click here.)

Anyway, the thing I’ve been writing the most on recently has been a draft of a serial horror story about a woman, her ghosts, and the man she thinks to bury them in. A writer I admire said to write ahead so I’ve been working on doing just that, but I can’t wait to share this story. We have to get to $30/month first, but as I get further in the draft I plan to post some fun bits to sweeten the pot. More on those to come!

I hope that you’ll forgive this shameless self-plugging and consider supporting this blog if it’s something that gives you joy. Thank you in advance if you choose to do so! Tune in next week for more Avatar discussions and a soccer reference.

First, we have a post on writing and when to push through a draft for all of you who follow for writing advice. Check that out over on Writers and Authors.

Next we have an interview over on T’s Stuff where I talk about why Daughter of Madness is awesome and once more admonish readers to leave a review. So, you know, maybe take a moment to leave a review?

Hope you enjoy!

We took a break from the blog tour this week for the holiday, but I wanted to take a minute to remind everyone that the final blog stop is coming up and that means our giveaway for two signed books is coming to a close. You have ten days to get on that, and you can enter at any tour stop.

In other giveaway news, my Instafreebie excerpt is part of a Group Giveaway featuring women kicking ass, so you should take a minute to check that out.

Last note: the blog resumes its regular posting schedule on Friday, July 20th. So look forward to some fun articles at that time.

Catch you on the flip side!

Release Day!!

Guys, it’s here!

hooray loki

I have worked so hard on this book for so long, and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with myself. Really, I have no clue how to adult without this book being in the wings. Daughter of Madness is definitely some of my best work to date and I look forward to getting even better. I really hope you all enjoy this read. If you do, tell your friends.

Some housekeeping about the release, mostly fun.

  • The ebook is out, link above. The paperback may be slightly delayed due to some formatting issues which popped up this week (they were mostly my fault because of a new software I was using). Link above still works though! If you want signed copies of both books there is a raffle associated with my blog tour, linked here. So enter to win! (The drawing won’t be held until the end of the tour in July, to be fair to everyone.)
  • I am planning an audiobook release but it will be pushed separately from the print and ebook copies – I have gotten some questions on that so wanted to keep you informed. You’ll have a date when I do. Audio is a lot of work in its own right, so I wanted to take the time to be sure I did it correctly.
  • There is one more book in this series and I already have it outlined. I’m taking a break from the world to do some editing on another project and while I’m working on that I’m going to probably scratch out another novella I’ve promised myself. After that it’s back to drafting the last bit of the Creation Saga. I imagine I’ll start on it sometime around when I start on the audiobook, since that seems to be a good method for me. Updates will no doubt follow, and you’ll get them here or in the newsletter, as per the usual.

But all that is work for tomorrow. For now, I hope you enjoy Daughter of Madness. I’ll be off having a drink!

Preorders, sales, promotional graphics, oh my!

You may wonder what in the world I have been up to lately, and let me say – a lot. April is a rollercoaster and I’m not strapped in. Please expect me to be absolutely mad over here.

Currently, I’m preparing to leave for Salt Lake City (or rather, its environs) where I am attending a writing workshop called Futurescapes. It’s looks to be an amazing experience, and I’m so excited to tell you about it later if I survive the next few weeks.

That said, I have some lovely things to share with you if you haven’t already seen them on my Twitter, Tumblr, etc.

First, Daughter of Madness is up for preorder! I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago but I was not perhaps exuberant enough. Specifically, the ebook is what is up for preorder. The print book will be releasing at the same time, but you will have to wait until June 2nd to get your copy.

Speaking of June 2nd, you can get an ebook of Mother of Creation anytime before that date! I’m hoping to have it for $1.99 soon but there has been a technical glitch at Amazon so I will do a special post to update you on when that is resolved. I made a cool graphic to share to folks….someday…..

I’ll also be doing some blog tours coming up. I will crosspost those here and mostly put a hold on original content for The Bramble until those are finalized. But we still have a couple of weeks until then, as the beginning of the tour is May 7th.

Phew.

Send me kind thoughts, readers, and let’s power through!
