Hello 2020

Good golly it is that time.

I’m starting the year off with a bang – I’ll be traveling out of the country to study acrobatics for a week or so, and I’m really jazzed about that. In fact, by the time this post goes live I will probably be on a plane! So I haven’t really had time to think about resolutions or goals for this year. I can’t say I feel sad about that, honestly. I’ve been having too much fun.

One of the things I discovered in the latter half of 2019 was the futility of trying to plan ahead in the full chaos energy of my life at the moment. I’ve been doing a lot of Amy Poehler’s “Yes, please” to a lot of cool things, and it’s been pretty excellent. Aerial silks is one of those things, as my Patreon supporters have seen. But I’ve also had some writing opportunities that have popped up that I jumped on at the end of the year. That’s sidetracked some of my other goals and to do items.

But looking forward, I think it’s fair to hope that I will finish at least one rough draft this year for a novel-length project. I’ve got a couple that I’m part of the way through and have been fiddling with pretty regularly, so I’m hopeful that this is not too ambitious of a goal. Of course, that depends on other factors, but I am going to try to really dig into making new words for something this year. That’s about as much as I can commit to at the moment. It’s been very hard to do rough drafts with my editing brain on, and it feels like the editing brain has been in full activation since June.

On the editing and submissions front, I am still working on revisions to what I affectionately call The Zombie Book. It is going out to betas once I’m done with this round for another read, and then I may do another round of revisions for some sticky parts, but my goal is to query that project this year at some point. This is a carryover project from last year – honestly this book needed a lot more work than I thought it did.

So that’s what I can talk about with my current writing projects, and I feel like it’s plenty to keep me busy for at least the next six months. After that we’ll touch base again.

I’ve got a few other projects I’m considering undertaking and you will no doubt hear about them as they manifest. Since they’re collaboration projects, I am not 100% sure what the timelines are on this yet. But I’ll let you know when I know more.

This blog will be on hiatus for next week while I travel out of the country. I hope you’ve all had a wonderful New Year and I’ll catch you in a few weeks!
