Hey, friends! Here are the events and joys planned for the Marquee in Verse project in April!
The Marquee in Verse poetry installation kicks off next week. There are four poems going up on the Grandin Theatre marquee in Roanoke. Here’s when you can see them!
Poem 1: Monday, April 3rd through Wednesday, April 5th
Poem 2: Sunday, April 9th through Wednesday, April 12th
Poem 3: Monday, April 17th through Wednesday, April 19th
Poem 4: Monday, April 24th through Wednesday, April 26th

Tuesday, April 18th: Poetry in Place Workshop
Find inspiration for poetry in your surroundings! Join local author and poet Amanda J. McGee to explore poetry inspired by place, including works by Pablo Neruda, Mary Oliver, and Li Bai. Participants will be invited to write their own short poems and present them at the end. Registration is required.

Tuesday, April 25th: Special Film Screening of HOWL (2010)
Join local author and poet Amanda J. McGee for the finale of the Marquee in Verse project. Following a brief introduction to poetic form, participants are invited to watch HOWL (2010) which discusses the groundbreaking longform poem HOWL through recitation and reenactment of the text, interviews, and court transcripts. This film is rated R. Get tickets here.
